‘3 Body Problem’ Season 2 Begins Production with Alfie Allen Joining Cast

Netflix’s ‘3 Body Problem’ Adds Alfie Allen and More to Season 2 Cast

Production is officially underway on Season 2 of Netflix’s sci-fi epic 3 Body Problem, with the series adding new faces to its expanding cast — including a notable Game of Thrones alum.

Alfie Allen, best known for his role as Theon Greyjoy in HBO’s Game of Thrones, has signed on in a recurring role for the second season. While details about his character remain under wraps, Allen’s casting marks a reunion with Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who co-created 3 Body Problem alongside Alexander Woo.

New Cast Members Join the Expanding Universe

Alongside Allen, David Yip (The Chinese Detective) and Jordan Sunshine (Wonder Pets) have also joined the ensemble. They will star alongside previously announced newcomers Claudia Doumit (The Boys) and Ellie De Lange.

As the narrative leaps forward in time, Season 2 is expected to explore deeper dimensions of the alien-invasion saga adapted from Liu Cixin’s acclaimed sci-fi trilogy.

Production Begins in Budapest with Returning Cast

Filming is currently underway in Budapest, Hungary, and producers have confirmed which main characters from Season 1 will carry over into the new storyline.

Returning cast members include: Jess Hong as Jin
Benedict Wong as Da Shi
Eiza González as Auggie
Jovan Adepo as Saul
Saamer Usmani as Raj
Liam Cunningham as Wade
Marlo Kelly as Tatiana
Sea Shimooka as Sophon
Josh Brener as Kent

The time jump promises to take the show into new narrative territory, consistent with the grand scope and philosophical depth of Liu’s source material.

Anticipation Builds for the Next Chapter

Season 1 of 3 Body Problem debuted to strong viewership and divided critical opinion, praised for its ambitious scale and dense storytelling. With the addition of new talent and a renewed focus on the series' future-set plotlines, Season 2 aims to push the boundaries of what serialized science fiction can achieve on screen.

No official release date has been confirmed yet, but with filming in motion and casting ramping up, fans of the trilogy can expect more updates as the production progresses.
