Fashion photography often focuses on the finished image: the garment, the lighting, and the pose. For photographer Russel Shawn Diniz, the process begins somewhere else entirely, with the person in front of the camera.

As the founder of Russel Photography, Diniz has worked with models, television personalities, pageant titleholders, and fashion brands across Europe and beyond. Yet while his portfolio spans runway shows, editorial shoots, and international pageantry, his approach consistently centers on authenticity rather than spectacle.

“The image is important,” Diniz explains, “but the person behind the image is what truly shapes the photograph.”

Moments That Define a Photographer

One of the projects that helped elevate Diniz’s profile came through his work connected to Miss England. His photography appeared on the cover of the Miss England Calendar 2025, featuring Milla Magee, who holds the Miss England 2024 title. The calendar was created to support Magee’s #GoFarWithCPR campaign, which encourages CPR education within schools. The initiative aligns with the broader advocacy platform “Beauty With A Purpose,” associated with the global Miss World organization.

For Diniz, the project stood out because the photographs carried a message beyond fashion imagery. “Projects like that remind you that photography can support something meaningful,” he says. “You’re documenting more than style, you’re helping amplify a cause.”

Fashion, Television, and the Crossover of Public Figures

Over time, Diniz’s portfolio has grown to include personalities who move between the worlds of fashion and entertainment. Among them is Nathalia Campos, recognized by international audiences after appearing on the reality series Love Island. The show launched Campos into a broader public spotlight and brand collaborations.

Diniz has also photographed Georgia Wood, a television personality known from Celebs Go Dating. For a photographer, working with individuals already familiar to audiences brings its own creative considerations.

“When someone has a public identity through television, the challenge is to capture something audiences haven’t already seen,” Diniz says.

Another collaborator is Afton McKeith, a British-American actress and model whose work spans fashion campaigns and performance. McKeith has appeared in projects alongside UK rapper Central Cee for Nike, while continuing to develop her acting and music career.

The Quiet Work Behind Runway Culture

Much of fashion’s public image revolves around the runway, but the environment surrounding it often tells the more compelling story. Diniz photographs during events connected to London Fashion Week and other major fashion shows across Europe, where designers, stylists, models, and photographers come together across some of the industry’s most dynamic creative environments. While the runway show itself lasts only minutes, preparation can take hours. Models move between makeup chairs, stylists make last-minute adjustments, and photographers position themselves to capture the right moment.

“The runway is the final result,” Diniz explains. “But backstage is where you see the collaboration and the pressure that brings everything together.”

Working With International Models

Beyond events and television personalities, Russel Shawn Diniz has built strong creative relationships with international models. One of those collaborators is Sarah Hartley, whose modeling career includes campaigns and runway work for brands such as Gymshark and luxury bridal designers, including Berta Bridal.

Another is Lydia Clifford, who has appeared in editorial publications such as British Vogue and walked for brands including Ralph Lauren and Hobbs.

For Diniz, photographing experienced models often becomes a collaborative process. “Models bring their own creativity to a shoot,” he says. “They understand movement, expression, and how to translate fashion into visual storytelling.”

Redefining Beauty Standards

A number of Diniz’s projects have intersected with broader conversations about representation and evolving beauty standards. He photographed model Melisa Raouf, who gained international attention as the first contestant in the 94-year history of the Miss England Beauty Pageant to compete without makeup.

Raouf’s decision sparked discussion about natural beauty and authenticity within pageantry and fashion. Diniz’s photographs reflected that philosophy by emphasizing simplicity and expression rather than elaborate styling.

He has also worked with multicultural model Marlene Marie, whose portfolio includes collaborations with brands such as Jimmy Choo, Kurt Geiger, and Charlotte Tilbury. Marie’s work highlights the growing diversity within international modeling, something Diniz believes continues to shape the direction of modern fashion imagery.

Couture and Global Fashion Houses

Diniz’s photography has also extended into collaborations with luxury fashion houses, including the British couture brand Aadnevik. The label’s intricate designs have been worn by global celebrities such as Selena Gomez, Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Jennifer Lopez.

Photographing couture garments requires careful attention to texture, movement, and detail elements that must remain visible even within dynamic fashion imagery. “When you photograph couture, you’re documenting craftsmanship,” Diniz explains. “Every fold and detail matters.”

Looking Forward

Today, Russel Photography continues to grow through collaborations across fashion, entertainment, and pageantry. From photographing runway collections to documenting global titleholders, Russel Shawn Diniz remains focused on capturing the human stories behind fashion’s visual culture.

His long-term goal is to continue developing projects that merge luxury fashion photography with storytelling and cultural relevance.

“Fashion evolves constantly,” he says. “But authenticity never goes out of style.”
