A passion project finally comes to life
After nearly two decades of development, Zack Snyder is officially moving forward with his long-awaited war drama, The Last Photograph. Filming begins later this month, marking a rare project for the filmmaker that steps away from superheroes, zombies, and sci-fi epics.
The cast and creative team
The film stars Stuart Martin and Fra Free, both known from Snyder’s Rebel Moon franchise. The project will be produced under Snyder’s Stone Quarry banner, with Snyder collaborating alongside his wife and creative partner Deborah Snyder and producer Wesley Coller. Gianni Nunnari and Hollywood Gang Productions are also attached as producers.
Global production scale
The Last Photograph is set to film across multiple international locations, including Colombia, Iceland, and Los Angeles. Local production companies in each country will provide on-the-ground support, emphasizing the film’s ambitious scope despite its relatively smaller budget compared to Snyder’s recent blockbusters.
International partners and incentives
Executive producers include Spain’s Mediaset España through its Telecinco Cinema division, as well as William Doyle and Colombian production house Jaguar Bite, run by Juan Pablo Solano and Simon Beltran. In Iceland, True North will manage production services. The project is also set to benefit from Colombia’s CINA tax incentive, offering a 35% discount on qualifying audiovisual expenditures in the country.
Snyder’s creative shift
Known for visually bold projects like 300, Man of Steel, and Netflix’s Rebel Moon, Snyder’s pivot to an indie-style war drama signals a creative departure. With its focus on human drama rather than spectacle, The Last Photograph could reveal a new side of the director’s storytelling.
